The Consumer Education Principle | Relevance & Control on Desktop & Mobile

This past month, the Digital Advertising Alliance undertook a fresh initiative to connect with online and mobile consumers about responsible data collection for advertising purposes, the benefits of relevance, and how they can control their interest-based advertising experiences.  With industry support, this consumer education push will run throughout 2016.

One of the remarks made by the Federal Trade Commission’s Jessica Rich, as she spoke during a keynote address at the Digital Advertising Alliance Summit,  was her ticking off a list of hallmarks for successful self-regulation. Independent enforcement, backed by the power to refer to a government agency when necessary, is one such hallmark.

This evolution in the DAA's choice platforms adapts consumer-friendly, independently enforceable privacy controls to the fast-growing mobile medium.

Digital Advertising Alliance Announces Mobile Privacy Enforcement to Begin September 1, 2015

Council of Better Business Bureaus and Direct Marketing Association Will Lead Independent Accountability Program for DAA’s Mobile Guidance

NEW YORK, NY – May 7, 2015 – The Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) today announced that enforcement of its Principles in the mobile environment (DAA Mobile Guidance) will begin on September 1, 2015, including new guidance specific to mobile, such as cross-app data, precise location data and personal directory data. The Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB) and the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) will extend their ongoing independent oversight of the DAA Principles on browsers to the mobile space.
